growing up between the big apple and rural upstate new york has greatly influenced kate golden as a designer. pushing to create contemporary objects that explore the vernacular of traditional American craft, she consciously includes the iconography of dovetails and embroidery while still being motivated by the innovations of production technology. her success is found in the combination of her serious passion for design with a lighthearted and innocent aesthetic, transforming rhino models into brightly colored cast objects. through her studies in the furniture department at the rhode island school of design, kate has explored her keen sensitivity to materials and meaning to create a body of humble objects with big personalities.
